On February 5, 2009, in Paris, Michelin announced that it will participate in three motor sports events in 2009, including the World Endurance Championship for motorcycles, and the motorcycle races in Spain and Italy.
This year, Michelin will provide Yamaha's Austrian team with all the tires used in the competition. The team once participated in all six games of the 2008 Motorcycle Endurance Championship and ranked second in overall performance. Through cooperation with the team, Michelin can successfully participate in the competition of the tire brands.
Competition with other tire brands for technical and creative competition is the main reason for Michelin's involvement in all kinds of sporting events. In order to better reflect the Michelin brand's constant pursuit of outstanding performance, Michelin will for the first time form its own team to participate in all competitions in the Motorcycle Endurance Championship. The body of the car will use the iconic colors of the Michelin brand. The team is named Michelin Force R&D Team. The three drivers are William Costes, Hugo Marchand and Josep Monge. Through the competition, they will collect a large amount of technical data for the design and development of Michelin brand motorcycle tires in the future.
As part of a brand new plan for motorcycle racing, Michelin will also participate in motorcycle tournaments held in Spain and Italy respectively.
