MTU is equipped with 4 engines and gearboxes for the "Red Jet 6" catamaran

It is reported that the "Red Jet 6" catamaran is the most modern ferry in the British Red Funnel fleet. The ferry is powered by four 2000 MTU engines with a power of 900 kW, which can provide service speeds of up to 38 knots. The ferry has twice as many engines as its three identical ferries. The number of engines for the "Red Jet 6" has been increased from 2 to 4 in order to increase redundancy. These engines can be shut down individually if needed, and the ferry can sustain three engines and only slightly reduce the speed.

Each MTU engine will power a waterjet, while the ZF 3050D gearbox ensures smooth power transfer. The ship will sail once every half hour to ferry passengers between Southampton and the Isle of Wight in the British mainland. The crossing distance is 9.9 nautical miles and the time is 23 minutes.

Combined with a variety of design features, the "Red Jet 6" engine will be more fuel efficient than the "Red Jet 3", "Red Jet 4" and "Red Jet 5". The new catamaran has been certified to ISO 1400:1 environmental management standards and is the most environmentally friendly vessel for the Red Funnel fleet. The captain is 40 meters long and can carry 275 passengers. It is also the largest ship of the Red Funnel fleet.
