Development and Reform Commission Says China's "Other Gas Resources" Are Rich in Resources

In addition to natural gas resources in China, other gas resources are also very abundant, and the utilization prospects are broad.
Dai Yande, deputy director of the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that such "fuel gas" includes coalbed methane, coke oven gas, smelter tail gas, biogas, straw gas, carbon black gas, refining and exhaust gas, underground coal gasification gas, oil shale gas, and inability to Exported oil associated gas.
According to the report of the Chinese Academy of Engineering “Developing Gas Engines to Make Full Use of China’s Gas Energy” project report, China’s gas energy resources are large, but they are relatively fragmented and have low utilization rates. If it can be used rationally, it can not only ease energy shortages, create economic benefits, but also help improve the environment and safe production.
China's coalbed methane resources are the world's third largest reserves after Russia and Canada, and account for 13% of the world’s top 12 countries’ total resources. According to the results of the latest round of resource assessments, China’s coalbed methane resources with a depth of more than 2,000 meters amount to 31.46 trillion cubic meters, which is equivalent to the amount of conventional natural gas resources on land.
Annual production of more than 170 million tons of coke in the country, accounting for 45% of the world's total coke production, producing 76 billion cubic meters of coke oven gas; steel production of more than 200 million tons per year, annual output of blast furnace gas above 300 billion cubic meters, converter 20 billion cubic meters of gas; excluding the large number of small-scale biogas sources in rural areas, only the biogas generated from municipal organic industrial wastewater, biogas generated from garbage, and fermentation raw materials from wineries, sugar factories, livestock and poultry farms, and food processing plants is estimated. It can produce 10 billion cubic meters of biogas.
In addition, the annual output of crop stalks in China is around 700 million tons. In addition to being used as an industrial raw material and animal husbandry feed, it can be used as an energy source at around 350 million tons; there are also refinery exhaust gas and associated gas that cannot be exported.
Dai Yande believes that increasing the use of gas energy in China can ease energy shortages and create economic benefits. According to calculations, if some of the unused gas resources are collected and used properly, the annual power generation capacity can reach more than 120 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for more than 6% of the country's total electricity generation in 2003.
